How new real estate rules affect San Diego realtors and home buyers

The National Association of Realtors has settled a class action lawsuit that will increase transparency around agent profits, changing how agents are compensated. Sellers will no longer pay the buyer's agent commission, which is now the buyer's responsibility. This shift is expected to lower real estate commissions, with the average buyer's-agent commission dropping to 2.55% in July. As home prices rise, the actual earnings for buyer's agents have increased slightly. California is considering a bill to require buyer-agent contracts, similar to laws in other states.
