San Diego was targeted by a state density bill that passed the legislature and aimed to allow taller housing near transit hubs citywide.
Under the measure, San Diego would have needed transit hub districts where residential height limits were allowed at a maximum of at least 150 feet.
At least 25% of San Diego's transit hub districts would have needed to allow residential buildings with maximum heights reaching at least 450 feet.
San Diego's mayor backed the proposal, calling it the kind of policy big cities needed at that moment for housing growth near transit.
If approved, the measure would have added unknown local costs and triggered a housing construction loan and financing study for San Diego.
